About Massage Therapy
A typical massage therapy session includes both subtle energetic work and the physical manipulation of muscles and joints. Pressure levels are adapted to fit the needs and desires of the client, current concerns, and past injuries. As each session is tailored to the needs of the client at the time of their visit, no two sessions are ever the same.
Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a whole body treatment style that encourages the relaxation of the nervous system and connective tissue. By using a very light touch and subtle movements, the client’s Inner Wisdom guides the session to release old tension, and achieve a higher state of alignment and comfort. CST is typically performed with the client fully dressed laying on a massage table, but can also be woven into a draped massage.
Deep Tissue Massage is performed on a massage table, with the client partially-to-fully undressed and under a sheet and blanket. There are a variety of static holds, and moving techniques that use varying levels of pressure to encourage muscle and fascial relaxation.
Shiatsu and Thai Yoga are modalities that are traditionally practiced with the client fully dressed on a mat on the ground (no massage table). They involve a lot more passive movement and stretching, with anywhere from light to deep pressure. There is also a focus on the energetic qualities of acupuncture meridians and points. Many of these techniques are also transferable to the massage table, and incorporated into every session.
